Tiger Mending

When I got done reading the story Tiger Mending I felt the same unsettled feeling as the narrator did. I had a strange feeling, kind of like something was wrong or that I didn't agree with what the peoploe were doing. I think the story made the reader feel this way from how the narrator talked very highly of her sister, but that her sister still needed her for support and comfort. Then when her and her sister when on their trip to Asia and the way the two tall, beautiful women treated the narrator. It gave me an angry feeling they way they treated her. Then when her and her sister were shown the tigers and how their backs were split, the two women looked and talked to the sister like she wasn't good enough to be there and it seemed odd how the Asia people who were helping the tigers never knew why their backs were being split open. When the narrator went into the jungle and found out how the tigers backs were splitting so easily it made me feel uneasy, that why hasn't anyone else went out to go look at why this was happening to the tigers? Then when her sister has an uneasy feeling about "mending" the tigers and not knowing why their backs were splitting. All of these thing helped the narrator and myself to have an uneasy feeling at the end of the story. The last thing that really did it, was when the narrator couldn't hug her sister back and left the next morning. This just made me think that what these people were doing to try and help the tigers wasn't really helping them if the tigers were splitting their own backs. I think the narrator felt it was wrong to be sewing the tigers back up and I had the same feeling as she did when I was done reading the story.

week 2 questions

Well there are many different ways that people respond to literature, emotionally, physically, scholarly. I think the way people respond to it is by the way the literature is presented to them. A person reading a book for their own personal reasons might respond to it in any of the three ways I listed above depending on what the wanted to gain from the literature. Some people read to gain more knowledge on certain subjects or to escape from the real world for a couple of hours and get caught up in a really exciting story. Literature is also writing as well so people can respond to something by writing about it, how they feel, write to someone, write about someone it's whatever message the author wants to get across to an audience.I think the way people respond to literature is the way the literature is presented to them and the reasons why they are either reading or writing being personal or for school, work or whatever else.
If everyone critically analyzed literature then I think it would take away some fun out of it and make it kind of boring unless you were given an assignment to critically analyze some piece of literature. I don't think everyone would analyze everything the same, people think different from one another and some pieces of literature just make different impressions on people. If everyone did critically analyze literature allot less people would read, some people don't want an analysis of what they are reading or to really think about why they felt this way when they read something. I think our lives would change because literature would slowly stop if everyone critically analyzed everything they read. People who read and write just because they enjoy it wouldn't enjoy it anymore because there would have to a reason behind everything they read and write. The only part of our lives that wouldn't change is the scholar part of it because students (especially English students) have to analyze certain pieces of literature and try to figure out what the author's message is. Critically analyzing everything would suck the fun out of literature for people who just want to get lost in a book for a couple of hours but for scholarly reasons literature would stay the same just get more difficult.

Responses to literature.

Literature matters to me because I think it helps people express their inner thoughts and feelings through writing, or they can connect towards something they are reading. Yes, sometimes literature can be boring, like when I was younger and didn't really understand some of the meanings behind it. I used to just think teachers made me read and right just to be evil! Now that I am older I understand some of the ideas and points the writers were trying to get through to me and I know how to get my points and ideas across on paper.
Literature spoke to me in the way that not just mean english teachers like it, but that there is a huge world of it out there and I just need to find the area that I enjoy, but still appreciate the other types. It has actually helped me speak and express my feelings through reading and writing. The way literature has informed me is that there are many different types and that everyone around the world has literature in their life someway. Literature has changed me in the that I feel smarter now that I understand it better and can express my ideas through it. When I was younger I hated reading and now I enjoy it alot more and read when ever I have time too. I still have alot more to learn about literature, but I know it is involed in everybodys life and it is better to embrace it then ignore it.
